Chile - Chile - Effects of the world depression: The world depression of the s was difficult for Chile’s economy because the international demand and the prices for saltpetre and copper plummeted.
Chile was forced to reduce imports, which in turn reduced national production. Incomes diminished, while public expenditures grew. The economic crisis, accompanied by the fall of Ibáñez. The Great Depression that begun was felt strongly in Chile from to Saltpetre and copper exports collapsed.
The World Economic Survey of the League of Nations declared Chile the worst affected nation by the depression.
